During Reception our children are assessed against the ‘Early Learning Goals’ as a continuation from on-going assessments in pre-School. In 2016 61% of the Reception children achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’. The National average figure is currently TBC.
Year 1- Phonics
Word recognition skills are developed systematically in the early years through the teaching of synthetic phonics. The National Strategy Letters and Sounds materials and the Jolly Phonics Programme are used. Phonics is taught daily.
National screening takes place in Year 1 and at Waterwells in 2016, 81% of pupils passed the assessment, matching the national average (81%).
Any child who has not met the standard is routinely re-assessed in Year 2.
